Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
While she was in her third year in college, Dr. Santillan volunteered at a Texas Mission of Mercy event, which included an extraction clinic. During this event, she had the chance to see how committed dental workers were when it came to taking care of their patients; she also gained an appreciation for the difference that accessible care can make for a community. Thanks to this experience, she ultimately decided to pursue a career in the dental field.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Santillan went to Texas Tech University; she graduated with a Chemistry degree and Summa Cum Laude honors. She went on to attend the Texas A&M College of Dentistry, where she earned her dental degree and also completed a residency in Pediatric Dentistry. She has trained at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, which gave her the knowledge to treat children who are medically compromised or have special needs when it comes to healthcare.
Dr. Santillan currently serves as a part-time Clinical Assistant Professor at the Texas A&M College of Dentistry. She is fluent in Spanish, which allows her to work with a wider variety of patients.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Santillan is a proud native of Garland. Outside of work, she likes to try out new restaurants and spend time with her family. Her interests include working out, cooking, and traveling.
