Now that the holidays are here, it’s time to start thinking about gifts for your child’s stocking. There are plenty of options to consider, of course, but if you’re worried about your child’s smile, you may want to prioritize gifts that are good for oral health. Your pediatric dentist is here with 3 suggestions for stocking stuffers that can be excellent gifts for your little one.

1. A New Toothbrush

You should be getting your child a new toothbrush every three to four months anyway, so why not make a fun gift out of it? Check your local store as well as online to see if there are any toothbrushes that can help get your child more excited about cleaning their teeth.

One good idea is to look for a brush that features a character or series that your child loves. You may also want to consider getting them an electric toothbrush that plays music. If your little one doesn’t always brush as long as they should, you may want to see if you can find a toothbrush with a timer.

2. Great-Tasting Dental Products

Has your child ever complained that they don’t like the way their toothpaste tastes? If so, they’re likely to appreciate finding toothpaste that comes in more exciting flavors in their stocking. There are plenty of toothpastes out there that feature flavors such as fruit or bubblegum; take the time to explore your options in order to find one that your child will like.

When buying toothpaste for your child, it’s important not to simply grab the first product you see. Double-check to make sure that the toothpaste contains fluoride and that it has been approved by the ADA. Also, if your child is younger than two years old, you should consult their pediatric dentist to see what kind of toothpaste is right for them.

3. Snacks That are Good for Oral Health

There’s nothing wrong with throwing a sweet treat or two into your child’s stocking. However, you should make sure that it’s balanced out by some snacks that are actually beneficial for the teeth and gums. Raisins are a good example since they can help fight harmful oral bacteria. On top of that, you may think of getting your child some sugar-free gum, which helps increase saliva flow to reduce plaque buildup.

Don’t be afraid to ask your pediatric dentist to see if they have any other gift suggestions. By choosing the right gifts for your child, you can ensure that their precious smile will remain safe even after the holidays are over.
