These treatments can be a bit intimidating for young patients! What can you do to help your kids cope and maintain a positive view of dentistry? Here are some practical tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Talk to Your Child Beforehand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You can give your child age-appropriate information about the procedure they are going to undergo. Tell them why the procedure is necessary and what they might feel during and after their appointment. Be honest and straightforward, but keep the conversation on the positive side! If your child has questions that you do not know how to answer, you can do some online research or call your dental team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be with Them During the Procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Your child\u2019s dentist will likely allow you to be in the room with your little one during their treatment. You can hold their hand and soothe them if they become frightened. If they are particularly nervous, ask the dentist about their available sedation options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is also important that you stay calm. That can be difficult if you feel nervous when you undergo dental treatments yourself, but your strong demeanor can do much to alleviate your child\u2019s fears!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Provide Comfort Afterward<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Your child\u2019s mouth is likely to be sore for a few days after their procedure. You can minimize their discomfort by providing appropriate doses of pain medication and making sure they have lots of soft snacks they can enjoy. If they need extra cuddles or a listening ear, do not hesitate to do what you can to accommodate them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, try to remember to validate their feelings instead of dismissing them. Children tend to feel more secure when their parents place a high value on their emotions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In some cases, the need for a pulpectomy or pulpotomy arises due to missteps in oral hygiene. Certainly, this can be an opportunity for your child to learn the importance of brushing and flossing.
